The Tiger Princess

Vladya surveyed the beautiful landscape. Tree branches, leaves, and vines crisscrossed one another, allowing in little streamlets of light. The river bubbled in a tranquil way, lapping the shore like an old friend. Tropical animals skidded here and there, none daring to get too close to the stranger, but all calmly going along with their business. “Yet, it seems too quiet,” Vladya muttered to himself. Cautiously, he placed a hand on his sword. Suddenly, a giant white tiger stood before the prince. The tiger’s swirling turquoise eyes stared straight into the prince’s heart. Slowly, Vladya lowered his sword and returned it to its sheath. He had never seen such a magnificent animal. When Vladya moved closer, the tiger began to run through the forest. Vladya ran after the glorious animal and thought he saw a maiden running alongside the tiger, ducking in and out of the trees. When he came to a clearing in which the sun shined directly down, the prince was surprised to see a beautiful young maiden standing in front of a small cottage. Vladya stared at the girl for a moment and then took off his helmet in respect. The girl’s eyes widened in fright as she frantically motioned. “What is it?” Vladya almost whispered, never taking his eyes off the girl’s face. A zapping pressure sent the prince toppling over. Quite used to such acrobatics, Vladya leapt back up, replaced the helmet of salvation securely atop his head, and twirled around. Wizard Adrik scowled and raised his hand again. The green light bounced off Vladya’s shield and smacked the wicked wizard squarely in his face. “You will pay for that,” Adrik snarled as he slithered away. Vladya turned back toward the maiden. “Who was that?” The girl simply stared at him. She glowed like an angel.
