In the middle of the river, Tadala, the hippo, overheard Hyena’s remarks and was insulted by them. Hoping to take advantage of the restlessness at the waterhole, Hyena called out to Tadala, “How much does one hippo drink compared to a herd of thirsty antelope?” Tadala felt his temper rising and he floated closer to the antelope gathered on the bank of the river. Suddenly, a low rumbling echoed across the river and its banks. It announced the arrival of the wise, elder elephant, Adaeze, and her tight-knit family of elephants. All the animals stood quietly waiting for Adaeze to speak.
