Hector’s Place to Belong

Tululu did not seem friendly at all. She didn’t need to be. She had all the at-tention of the class. Chapter 7 The next night when he had escaped his cage and sat in front of the Na-tivity set, he remembered again that Jesus left heaven and came to earth, and it was hard. “I haven’t really left my safe cage and gone over to meet Tululu. I guess it is the Christmasy thing to do - to go meet her.” He looked at his usual path home - up the frame of the closet door, across the two window sills, and a short jump to his cage. “I might be able to jump to Tululu’s cage.” Hector hurried to make the trip before he lost his courage. As he left the window sill, he jumped higher and stretched further - and landed on the top of her cage. Tululu looked up, surprised to see him so close. “I haven’t met you yet, so I’ve come to say hello,” Hector spoke. “Did she even understand him? He suddenly wondered if they could understand each other, so he just repeated, “Hello.” She answered back in hamster chirps and squeaks, and Hector got some of the words. “Hi,” she said. “Nice…meet...” “I’m called Twinkle,” Hector said. “My real name is Hector.”
