Is it a shame that we as humans hold onto a perception of love while also experiencing it on a smaller scale than its actuality? How miserable must we be when we believe to have found love and can only enjoy it for a moment before another facet or desire of life takes it away! Or rather, what a blessing it is to feel any sense of such an eternal connection at all. It may be the only sense of eternity available to man at all! That is how endless love truly is, that it, being removed from time and being itself eternal, can still be felt within our mortal lives.
How great and fulfilled is he who has experienced a portion of it! For in that brief moment of love, when the world paused and you looked around at your surroundings, and then back again at your companion. You smiled, perhaps the biggest smile of your life, and maybe just internally, not actually with the mouth, but you felt it. You felt love. You felt God. And it caressed your soul. And it lingered, but eventually the world interfered as it always does. The waitress came to take your order, or maybe it was already time to pay, or maybe in the distance you could hear the ambulance sirens, and suddenly your senses stole your lasting emotion. Your lasting spiritual love. And now, it’s just a memory. Even as you’re sitting right here with her, it’s already a memory.
For such is love. It comes and goes, at least for us. Even God just passes through from time to time, reminding each of us that He loves us. When this happens how do we react? Most will probably deny God the proper gratitude, some will give thanks, and the rest will fall victim to a love so good but so short that they will fail to acknowledge the utility in it. We get to see glimpses of the eternal love that waits for each of us to retrieve it; this piece of the whole is sometimes too painful to bear. The impatient want it all now; the humble don’t even believe they deserve it at all. What does it take to find love and to keep it?
You have to remember from where love comes. We feel the incitement of the emotions by grace but also by our own perspectives and outlook. When we use proper discretion and discernment, joy and love can become even more joyous and even more beautiful. Don’t let the world strip you of your sentiment and spiritual growth. Instead, let your spiritual growth rob you of your senses; this is how to remove the worldly perception and expectation of things. The world and its entirety- people, animals, nature, the phenomena associated with natural order- were all handcrafted by God. Surely you can find beauty, appreciation, and love somewhere in that.
And when you do, don’t be disheartened when that moment of love comes to pass. Cherish the memory and always remember that God’s love is unending. The mere glimpse you had of this truth will resonate more soundly within you that maybe you can even maintain a peaceful joy until you open your eyes to another display of love, and of God.
