“The Deep State in the Time of Jesus”
The Gospel of Peter as Told to Mark
“The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Mk.4:38
“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep(Hebrew tehom), and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Genesis 1:2
Introduction:
…“Two facts of history emerged when Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. We became aware of what he called “the Deep (see Genesis 1:2 above) State” and we witnessed to what will surely cause an industry of PhD theses on a phenomenon called “the TrumThe Main Story:
”The Synagogue of Fear (Mk.1:21-28)
….Jesus’ first action, “without delay” (Mk.1:20) was to call me into ministry, then Andrew, then the sons of Zebedee James and John.
Jesus then took us to a synagogue which was ruled by fear. His impact surprised everyone because he “taught them as one who had authority” (Mk.1:22) which is to say that he lived in gratitude and not fear. He did not read scripture like some who act as if they were being punished. He read scripture as if he had received a love note of encouragement from his Father.
Immediately there was the opening war with the kingdom of fear.
“A man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit (fear), cried out,
‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!’ Mk.1:24
“Be quiet. Come out of him.” (Mk.1:25)
Jesus knew that as the fear demon owned the man, possessed the man, took all in-coming calls for the man, the man could not hear anything he was saying. He talked to the fear and not the man. He talked to the sin, not the sinner. He talked sternly to the fear, but graciously to the sinner.
The Deep State of Fear loves fear but hates those in gratitude. The Kingdom of Gratitude loves and drives out fear.p Derangement Syndrome.”
”My Scary Mother-in-Law (Mk.1:29-34)
….I could not fully explain what happened but in Luke’s gospel, he says Jesus “bent over (my mother-in-law) and rebuked the fever and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.” Lk.4:5
I think Luke got it right and I did not. Between my mother-in-law and my wife, they scared me and considered me a coward. How could I become leader of the church if I could not be the leader of my own family? I was still called “Simon”.
The Deep State promotes equality through matriarchy by enabling the children to act out their fears. The Kingdom promotes hierarchy through the anointing of the father to teach the children gratitude. It is natural to complain, but supernatural to say “thanks”.
“The Fear of Forgiveness and Healing (Mk.2:1-12)
….Fear and shame are more normal to us than mother’s milk. I never realized until Jesus that people are more fearful of forgiveness and healing than they are of being guilty and of being sick. The body mind’s fear of abandonment interpreted by the soul as a desire to be punished, creates that mentality of fallen man.
This is not a self-evident truth and the reader must pause to take this truth in:
“We are more fearful of forgiveness and healing than we are of living in shame, the deep fear that we were created badly.”
We are not so aware of the terrible consequences of fear until we step outside of the possession of fear by love’s respite from fear. Our body mind adapts to fear long before our souls and spirits adapt to love. We are all pagans at birth feeling like prey in a predator’s world. No wonder God becomes lamb for us long before He becomes man. The body mind is always preparing for an attack when there is no attack, creating an enemy when there is no enemy, seeking revenge on an enemy that must be created to validate the fear that drives it all.
But no one is afraid of a lamb, even the abused.
The Deep State uses scapegoats to increase fear. The Kingdom uses the Lamb to absorb fear.
The Shadow Knows (Mk.14:66-72)
….The Word of God, as the Word of Jesus, is like a sword that divides the peace of the spirit from the understanding of the soul (Heb.4:12). I remember his Word to me:
“Before the rooster crows twice, you will disown me three times.” Mk.14:72
Jesus had driven out the demon of fear in my mother-in-law, but he was still unable to drive out the demon of fear in me. My demon of fear in my understanding still eclipsed the perfect love of Christ in my spirit. My soul/brain still had to be broken.
I broke down and wept.
The Deep State can boast because it believes it has received what it earned. The Kingdom cannot boast because it knows that if we only got what we earned, we are all slaves forever in fear and hell.
My Fifty-Year Journey
Lovell, Me.1980: The Father Derangement Syndrome
….“I simply pointed out that he had no control over whether his father was impeached or not, but that his primary responsibility is his relationship to God the Father. Sounding more like Nicodemus than he knew, he asked how as a 32-year-old could he possibly start over. I spoke of a new birth, but he could only think of his first birth of his mother. I said “With your mother you were born in fear. You must be born again of the Spirit of God the Father which is gratitude. He is quite different from the God of your earthly father who you never could measure up to and has kept you in fear of not being ‘good enough.’”
He left that wintry morning in Maine feeling a deep weight of sin and fear had been removed from him. He was no longer a slave to his fear but was now grateful for his Father.
It was my first experience of what we would call today “father/family derangement syndrome” that we associate today with the Left.”
