TAKING OFF -- As we taxied along the runway faster and faster until we were off the ground and in the air; up, up and away into to dark threatening clouds, higher and higher we flew. Wrapped like a butterfly in it’s cocoon into the thick mist; clouds so thick you could only see to the end of the plane’s wing as you look out the window, but still the pilot flew upward higher and higher. The fog is rolling by like water over Niagara Falls but we kept flying higher and higher until we break through the fog and the rain. Now the clouds are below and the sun is above us. The clouds below us look like the surface of a tranquil sea. Looking down it’s easy to imagine a giant blue whale breaching the surface and blowing water as it swims along.
The sun is in its full splendor like a on a summer day at noon; we are flying in nothing but blue skies. The once dark blinding, terrifying clouds are now reflecting the light of the sun. We are above the storm and flying in the light of the sun then it hit me; yes it’s true behind every dark cloud is a silver lining. And it came to me;” If you want to fly in the Son you got to fly high”

---- One foggy, misty day in January my wife Virginia, Toni my daughter, and two grand children: Adonis and Brianna left Dawson, GA for Montgomery AL. I would catch a plane to Houston from Montgomery. As we drove down me 85 it was hard to see because of the misty rain and fog. I thought about turning around more than once, but we pressed on, because the goal was to go to Huston to visit her; she was sick. … As I was coming aboard I’m looking for the pilot. I want see if he was a mature looking person. I want to see a person with a little grey in his head. I want to see if he looked anything like Captain “Sully”. I wanted to see if he looked like someone that could land a plane on the Hudson River without crashing,… What a thought! Too much clutter to communicate with God! Do you think it’s possible for us to have so much going on in our lives that we miss the things that are really meaningful? Do you think it is possible that we could fail in our communication with God because we have too much clutter in our lives? Jesus talked about some becoming entangled with the cares of the world that they leave the Lord (Mark 4:19). In Jesus’ parable of the Sower he mentions one who receives the word among thorns; thus allowing the cares of the world to choke the word making him unprofitable-
About the Author
George G. Draine was one of eleven children; he was the seventh child. He has been a dreamer since his childhood. He was born in West TN and grew up exploring the deep woods and river bottoms near his home place. His vivid imagination causes him to live above what is called normal.
George is the first boy in his family to graduate high school and then go on to receive a doctorate in theology with an emphasis in counseling. He preaches for a congregation of the Lord’s church in Dawson GA. He is passionate about seeing people living up to their greatest calling not living a mediocre life but a dynamic life making a difference for good in this world.
