Prologue Twenty years earlier The night was warm in Georgia as the summer breeze blew thru Violet’s long blonde hair. Her slender petite body walked briskly down the narrow sidewalk in her small town of Friendly. Her forehead was wrinkled with a frown and a look of concern was upon her face. Her heart was beating fast as little sweat beads formed between her breasts. Her breathing became heavier the faster she walked. She had an eerie feeling that she was being watched. A car passed her driving slow. The same car had passed her twice already. She wished her best friend Maggie was with her then she wouldn’t be so paranoid. Maggie always teased her saying she was afraid of her own shadow. Slowing down her pace she could see her high school in the distance. Relief showed on her face, but was soon replaced with disappointment. She was hoping she would run into Maggie leaving the dance but everything was deserted. The dance had ended early which was not unusual in her small town. Turning around to walk back home her voice echoed in the stillness of the night as she talked to herself. “Maggie you must have hitched a ride with someone.” Walking faster now, she had a secret to tell Maggie that just couldn’t wait. Around her neck two charms laid against her moist skin. One was a ladybug Maggie gave her in grade school to bring her good luck thru the years which she never took off. The other she had received two years ago of two hearts linked together meaning true love forever from her boyfriend Dallas. She was reminiscing how through the years as far back as she could remember she told Maggie everything no matter how big or small the secret may be. She smiled as she thought about her secret she had told no one not even Dallas. Maggie would be the first to know this secret before their graduation in two weeks. Ever since they were little they had a secret code. Let the phone ring once and then meet under the big magnolia tree between their houses in the adjacent backyard. This was their special meeting place for emergency secrets. They had a lot of emergency meetings through the years from first kisses to broken hearts along with tears and laughter. “Tonight will be tears of happiness,” Violet said her voice a soft whisper. She continued to walk faster hoping Maggie would be home by the time she got to her own house. Thinking out loud Violet’s voice was full of excitement. “I’m going to call Maggie as soon as I get home. I’ll let the phone ring once, and she will meet me for an emergency meeting under the big magnolia tree. Then I will tell her my secret.” So deep in thought she hadn’t noticed someone was walking toward her, he seemed to come out of nowhere. Then she noticed a car parked around the corner. It was the same car that drove by earlier. Instincts told her to cross the street but it was too late. They were already within arms reach, her heart was pounding. Looking at the ground not wanting to have eye contact, they passed. She let out a sigh of relief. Surprise and fear took control of her body as she felt his hands roughly go around her tiny waist from behind. His nails cutting into her flesh as he lifted her like a bag of feathers and started to carry her toward his car. Instinct of survival took control of her body. Thrashing her body back and forth struggling to get free she caused him to lose his balance. As they tumbled to the ground he fell on top of her. Feeling the cool earth beneath her she closed her eyes, terrified to have eye contact with her attacker. The weight of his body was smothering. She could smell his stale sweat, feel the rapid beating of his heart. His face was close to hers. She felt the warmth of his breath. A tear slid slowly down her cheek. His lips touched hers forcefully and painfully. In defense she bit his lip tasting his salty blood. Terrified she was trying to scream over and over but only a hoarse whisper could be heard -- her voice was frozen with fear. “Bitch” he whispered in her ear as he raised his fist and hit her, she slipped into darkness. Still on top of her he could feel her breasts against his chest, they were firm her nipples hard. He could smell her sweet perfume. His hands slowly slid down her body as if to explore every inch.
