Trinket Boxes

The tiny box was made of oak

Speaking winking twinkling you spoke

“If you love me wholly,

You’ll fit in the box fully.”

It’s impossible it’s insane

“At least try before you complain.”

So I stepped inside and turned around

Sat down only to stand with a frown

I broke my bones to lay them down

Tore myself apart and spread it around

Proud of myself that I fit inside

You looked at me with a look in your eyes

Walked away after one line was spoken.

“Yeah. But now you’re broken.”

“Indeed, I always believed that I was special. Until I saw that the look you looked at me with, that look where it seemed as if I was the only person in the world, that was the look you looked at every girl with. And those names you used with me, were the names you used with every girl. Everything that I believed was special between you and me, it wasn’t. They were just normal things you did. And it occurred to me in that moment, that just because you were special to me, did not mean that I was special to you.”

Beautiful Lies

I have an unquenchable thirst for your lies

Even though they’re something I do despise

They taste like salt and smell like spice

Full of falseness that makes them nice

Beautiful lies rolling off your tongue

“We’ll grow old together even though right now we’re young.”

“Darling I loved you more than you’ll ever know.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

And beautiful lies rolled back off of mine

“Me and you, we’re done.”

“No strings attached this is just for fun.”

Oh these beautiful lies filling the space

In the beautiful lies I found my place

Because I

Was a beautiful lie

“And the beautiful thing about poetry is that it’s relatable. Because all of us are broken or hurting in some manner. Some of us just choose to write it down and other people read it and don’t feel so bad anymore because they know that they’re not alone in that feeling.”
