RED SWEATER DAY From the moment my feet touched the floor this morning, I knew today was going to be a special one. The sunrise with its purple, pink and orange, tinted the valley like an artist's water color painting. Peace was apparent in everything my eyes could see. The stately fir trees reached upward, seeming to grab the sun and bask in it. The wispy fog began to dissipate as if obeying the sun's command to move over. The leafy trees were rich in their autumn harvest clothes of gold and red. One could smell the burning leaves and see the fire's smoke rising lazily into the air. The orange tom cat had found his patch of sun and was peacefully lolling in it. I was peaceful too, and a feeling of serenity seemed to envelope my whole being. Physically, a good nine hours of restful sleep probably helped. Full of happy thoughts, I began my day by making a fire in the fireplace. The logs began to pop and crackle and the room was filled with warmth. I went to the kitchen and put on some bacon and mixed the pancake batter, and the breakfast aroma began to filter through the house. Soon a little head was peeking around the comer, ready for breakfast. We ate, shared conversation and some laughter while I lingered over my cup of tea. Then the words "well, Mom, this looks like a Red Sweater Day". It was a reference we use to signify that things are going well, everyone is happy and life is good. I knew this day was definitely going to qualify for that title. As the sun rises, all the bounty of the earth bestows on us a day of new beginnings. Then God said: let there be lights In the dome of the sky, to separate day from night. Let them mark the seasons, the days and the years, to illuminate the earth. And so it happened: God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky, to Illuminate the earth. Genesis 1:14-17

About the Book
There are three parts to this book: anecdotal narratives, poetry, and fiction. It contains autobiographical stories of family life, including times of both happiness and sadness. It emphasizes the strength of the family and their faith. The creative short stories and poetry will engage and entertain you. About the Author
The author grew up in Belfield, North Dakota where she lived from 1945 to 1962. She enjoys writing about small town experiences and memories of her childhood in rural America at that time. Her writing often includes a spiritual perspective. Her love of writing began as a young child and she still has many of the poems and stories she wrote in elementary school. She moved to Oregon in 1969 where she has lived ever since. She is residing in rural Washington County near Hillsboro, Oregon in her home of 42 years. Writing is a part of her daily routine. If not creating a story or poem, it often takes the form of notes or handwritten letters to friends and family. She often says she should have been born in the 1800’s because she’s more at home with the old-fashioned than the new technology.
