"We just came from the evening ceremony at Mt. Rushmore. It was AMAZING! I see patriotism being chipped at and eroding on the East and West Coasts, but not here in the heart of the country. There wasn't a seat left in the amphitheater for this ceremony. It was standing room only. A speaker came on stage and spoke about the four Presidents who were honored on Mt. Rushmore. Next, a movie was shown about the monument and those Presidents' lives. A spotlight began to shine on Mt. Rushmore while "America the Beautiful" was sung and scenes from America were shown on the screen. We were then asked to stand and sing the National Anthem. As tears formed, Jim and I held hands and sang with everyone else. Afterward, men and women who had served in the different branches of our military were asked to come on stage. Each were introduced, their branch of the military mentioned, and they were honored with much applause from the people attending. The flag was then lowered and the ceremony concluded. The entire ceremony was reverent, respectful, and so moving. Because of the bad storm today, we didn't think the ceremony would be held tonight. However, the storm stopped around seven; the sun came out; and we left to be here. We are so glad we didn't miss this ceremony. It was truly an honor to be here!"

About the Book
Have you ever wanted to see America? I have! My great-grandparents never went farther than the coal mines of Pennsylvania. My grandparents traveled as far as Philadelphia. My parents saw some of the East Coast states and California. Me, I wanted to see it all, every state—all of this beautiful country. On this road trip, I have been able to see a lot of the states. I have loved this experience. I still have more to visit and can’t wait to get on the road again!
About the Author
Genevieve Welsh Bottorff has long dreamed of writing a book. Retirement has given her that opportunity. Previously, one of her stories won the Christmas Story Award in her former local newspaper, “The Central Record,” in Medford, NJ. This story was also published in “The Evening Bulletin” in Philadelphia, PA. Another article she wrote was published in “New Covenant Magazine,” a Catholic periodical. Long a writing enthusiast, she hopes to do more now that she is retired. She and her husband reside in Florida. When not driving up and down the East Coast visiting their grandchildren, Genny also works part-time at Disney World and enjoys every “magical” moment.
