During supper time, everyone loved when she asked for her "GEDDY!" (spaghetti). When Mya came home from kindergarten, she ran to her grandma singing, "Can I have some macaroni and cheese please, with trees?" "Of cause my dear!" Grandma replied with a smile because she knew that Mya meant macaroni and cheese with "broccoli". It was her favorite meal. However, my favorite meal was on Sundays after church. The traditional Puerto Rican food: Arroz con Pollo (yellow rice with chicken) and stewed red beans, tostones (fried plantains) and avocado salads. Yummy! Christmas was my favorite time of year because the aroma of the Christmas family dinner was amazing. Arroz con Gandules (yellow rice with pigeon peas), Pernil (roast pork), Pasteles (green banana dough with stuffed meat wrapped in banana leaves) and finally, dessert: Arroz con Dulce ( Puerto Rican style sweet rice pudding with cinnamon and raisins). "YUMMY, YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!"

About the Author
Nelibeth Plaza has served for Twenty-five years in the New York City Department of Education as an elementary school teacher and formerly as an assistant principal. She loves working with children and has a passion for reading aloud in the classroom.
