Top Ten Things I Would Rather Do Than Write All Summer Long:
1. I would rather eat a million worms covered in fish guts.
2. I would rather lick the bottom of Jimmy's shoe he used to squash a spider.
3. I would rather pick up dog poo.
4. I would rather jump off of the Empire State Building.
5. I would rather eat the cafeteria beef and noodle surprise all summer long.
6. I would rather get sucked up by a tornado and fly through the universe.
7. I would rather mow every lawn in the neighborhood.
8. I would rather organize our local library and shelve books. (maybe not)
9. I would rather babysit my neighbors crazy dog who has seizures and barfs up everything he eats.
10. I would rather go to school in my underwear ON THE FIRST DAY BACK!

About the Book
Gum could barely hold in his excitement on the last day of school. He had waited for this moment for over 280 days! School was close to being out, and he had plans – BIG PLANS!
His fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Magle, told the class that she had a fun surprise for the last day of school. What could it be? Well, let’s just say that Mrs. Magle and Gum don’t define “fun” the same way. Mrs. Magle announced to the class that she would be their teacher next year also. That wouldn’t be so bad, except she assigned everyone a SUMMER WRITING PROJECT!
Gum doesn’t like this news! What’s he supposed to write about? He hates writing! How can he live out a summer of adventure with a writing project looming over his head? To make matters even worse, Gum’s mom is a teacher across the hall. How will he ever get out of this unfortunate mess? A summer must be savored and enjoyed. SUMMERS ARE FOR KIDS!

Julie Brothers is a nationally board certified teacher and public speaker. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University and her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Oklahoma State University. Writing for her students has been a passion of hers for several years. Julie is known best for combining humor with life lessons kids can’t afford to miss. She uses personal experiences as an Oklahoma farm girl to capture the attention of her readers. Although she grew up in Davenport, Oklahoma, Julie currently resides in Owasso, Oklahoma, with her husband and son. Julie currently teaches fourth and fifth grades for Owasso Public Schools.
