Since Hitch moved to the 6Bs,
His love for the ranch grew,
but with this summer’s drought, all the things he cared about,
he worried might not make it through.
Hitch has found with ranch life, living with ups and downs
is just part of being a hand,
and now because of the drought, and the tanks running out,
the 6Bs needs water again!
After a long afternoon of hopping around,
he went to the tank for a drink.
He got a mouthful of crust, then spit out the dust.
This hard, dry ground made his heart sink!
His favorite fishing hole is getting mighty low,
and the grass for the cattle’s wearing thin.
So the herd was moved to a new state
where the grass is growing great.
Oh how Hitch wishes they’d come back again!

About the Book
Hard work and the cowboy life on the 6B’s Ranch is nothing new to old jackrabbit Hitchin’ Post. As he watches his beloved ranch go through a terrible drought, Hitch begins to look at life in a different way. He learns that despite challenges, there is always something to be thankful for.
About the Author
Julie Barker is a mother of three and was born and raised in west Texas. She has grown up surrounded by the ranching heritage and, along with her mother, illustrator Carolyn Altman, felt drawn to share this way of life with children through the life of the thoughtful little jackrabbit, Hitchin’ Post.
