The 2x4's clattered down around me as I stared in horror. (He) was lying spread-eagled on my just-refinished hardwood floor, surrounded by black puddles, with 20-penny nails driven through his hands and feet. At first I thought my drill was resting on his forehead, then I realized it was attached to the fourteen-inch bit, which had been drilled through his head and into the floor. The drying blood was beginning to attract flies, and the stench of death filled my lungs, gagging me.
