Mr. Bubbles

Bobby had three days’ vacation due,
so on Friday when he was through,
he packed his car with a bunch of stuff,
and headed out to spend some time in the rough.
The preacher had told him about some mini courses
on how to ride and bridle horses.
He decided to give it a shot,
so tossed in his sleeping bag and cot,
as he’d been told he’d have to sleep outside,
and then get up early for a trail ride.
They’d eat toast and eggs made over the fire
before continuing on a little higher
up to the peak.
Their staff did this ride every other week.
They encouraged the inexperienced to come along.
They said that it would cause your confidence to grow strong
and give you a greater sense of security,
that in the end, would set your spirit free
to try new things or go to new places,
whether into the city or open spaces.
They said, “You will feel so blessed,
so just come along and try your best.”
He was not too surprised
to find the trip there to be a rather rough ride.
Most of the road was dirt.

When he got out of the car he rolled up the sleeves of his
shirt.
He was greeted by a broad-shouldered-man,
who said, “Hi! I’m Dave Smith,” as he stretched out his hand.
Bobby shook it feeling quite impressed
by Dave’s confident manner and the way that he dressed.
Nothing about Dave was remotely fake -
from his wind-leathered skin to his firm hand shake.
Dave had even taught movie stars to ride
and once served in the Army as a colonel’s guide
through the tall grasses of Vietnam.
He was known for being able to get folks out of the
toughest jam,
and had total mastery of the horse.
He would be the main instructor of the course.
