Sarah liked her sensible life. it was predictable and quite comfortable. Everything was completely orderly in her life. Everything except her hair. Sarah's hair had a mind of its own. She had tried to control it for as long as she could remember. It simply would not be contained.
Sarah's hair was a lovey fiery red, but it was quite wild. It grew in every possible direction. Sarah had tried to tame it with clips, headbands, with hats. No luck.
Sarah woke up Monday to find her hair collected on the left side of her head in an isosceles triangle. All water, hairspray, and brushing made no difference. She rummaged through her mothers closet and found a great feather hat that belonged to her grandmother. It would do quite nicely. At school her friends looked at her and shook their heads.
"Love the feathers, but your hair is a mess", they said.
"I know" said Sarah. "Nothing can be done."

Sarah O’Shea is a sensible nine year-old with fiery red hair. Her life is lovely---uncomplicated, orderly and very comfortable---except for her hair, which has a mind of its own, and a very bad attitude! Sarah’s hair is behaving badly, embarrassing Sarah, shocking her parents and trying the patience of her teacher and classmates. As she faces the challenges of trying to manage her unruly mane, Sarah discovers that sometimes the best remedy for a problem is the help of a friend.
