Gabriella awakened with a jerk. The alcohol taste in her mouth was bitter and nasty as she tried to swallow. Her vision was impaired from whatever it was he used to knock her out. With the motion she was feeling, the tight cramped space let her know that she was in the trunk of a car. It felt like he was intentionally hitting every bump in the road as he drove. As soon as she got her bearings she began trying to wiggle her hand free from the duct tape entwined around her wrist. She relaxed her entire body like she’d been taught to do in case of a situation like the one she was placed. She closed her eyes taking deep breaths; she began wiggling her wrist up and down loosening the tape. Little by little she started feeling the slack in the tape. Not knowing how much longer she had, she began moving a little faster until the tape was loose enough for her to slip her right hand all the way out. After freeing one hand she pulled the tape off her other hand. She then began working on her ankles unwinding the tape quickly. She almost has it free when the car stops. She freezes, her breathing increasing with each heartbeat, sweat begins to form on her nose as her hands begin to frantically find some type of weapon to defend herself. She comes up empty yet continues searching refusing to accept that her life would end like this. Refusing to let him win she continues searching. Her hand touches some type of canister. She brings the can in front of her face … defroster. “Damn,” she utters. Turning the canister to the position where she can use it to her advantage she lays back down in a fetal position after placing the tape fragments in the corner of the trunk. She prayed that the can of anti-freeze would work. It wasn’t long before her question was answered when the trunk was opened, he stood there smiling that sinister smile that never reached his eyes, “My little Gabriella, I hope the ride wasn’t too rough for you. Let me get you out of there so you can be more comfortable.” He lifts her out, Gabriella makes sure to keep her body tucked as he lifts her out. He never saw it coming as she sprayed the anti-freeze into his eyes. He dropped her, she hit the concrete landing on her hind bone, it felt like a bolt of electricity ran through her entire body but she had to block out that pain as she scooted far away from him. He screamed holding on to his eyes going in circles. Acting from the pure rage he pulls the knife from its sheath and begins swiping at the air blindly trying to stab Gabriella. He gets on his knees listening trying to gauge where she is as she quickly pulls the rest of the tape from her ankles. Just when he is within a few feet of her, she uses all her might and kicks him in the face. She felt his nose crack under the impact of the kick. When he bellows at the top of his lungs holding his bleeding nose Gabriella makes a dash for the woods directly behind her. Another thing their father taught them was how to survive in the woods. After running deep into the woods she finds a large tree and begins climbing it with ease, using the more solid branches as a footstool to pull her body up higher and higher into the tree. Once she has climbed a comfortable distance, at least five stories, she stops. Finding a solid branch that can hold her weight comfortably she peers down into the woods. Listening, she closes her eyes to accent her other senses, relying totally on her hearing. As she sat high up listening she allowed her mind to take her back four years ago when everything changed drastically … forever.
