About the Book

The Restorative Power of Spirit is an illustrated collection of poems that offers a positive message of hope and faith for people of all spiritual traditions. In their first collaborative work of poetry and photography, Sheryl Brooks and her husband, Joe Brooks, explore how prayer can revitalize the soul and provide a beacon of hope for anyone who has struggled with feelings of depression, anxiety, or fear.

From the stark simplicity of a water tower to a vibrant display of color at sunset, The Restorative Power of Spirit combines words of encouragement with powerful images that celebrate the resilience of the human spirit and our capacity to heal, persevere, and love even in our darkest, most challenging moments. This inspiring collection of fifteen original poems and photographs reminds us to be mindful of where we are at any particular moment in our lives and to appreciate who we are for every life has purpose and value.

The Restorative Power of Spirit pays tribute to the potential in each one of us to overcome life’s challenges, reclaim control, and to reconnect with a higher source.

Facing the Shadows

I will embrace the light

that God’s mercy provides

and stare down the demons

in the places they hide.

They will not defeat me

or hold hostage my dreams.

My strength comes from angels

and the love that they bring.
