"Rinnie the Weasel" is a fun story that captures the interest and imagintion of children by the outrageous behavior of Rinnie the Weasel. "Knowing Rinnie is a mixed bag somewhere in between a chocolate chip cookie and a snake bite. Although he is as much fun as a barrel of monkeys, he is also as mischievous as a naughty puppy rolling in a puddle of mud." Rinnie lives in the lush Woodlands with wonderfully enduring animal friends: His sister, Rosey the Weasel, his brother, Tobias the Weasel, Genieve and Hamlet the Chipmunks, Cassandra and Calvin the Mice, Matilda the fawn, Chadwick the Beaver, Horatio the Frog and Barthlomew the Turtle. Rinnie is very fortunate because his friends love him despite his various escapades. "Rinnie has many clever ideas and everyone laughs at his antics. However, there are times when his friends feel like wringing his neck."
The book is written with such descriptive language swooping the reader right into the magic of the story. By engaging in a variety of activities which support the meaning of the story, the reader connects in meaningful ways to the characters and events of this journey.
As the story unfolds, a mural is created depicting the setting and characters. A book "Rinnie is the Greatest" is created depicting Rinnie in each of his various hilarious outfits. A Character Book is created with illustrations and descriptions of each character in the story. Puppets are made for each of the characters enacting vignettes through out the story. Readers will cherish their experience in emerging themself in Rinnie's world.

About the Book
Rinnie the Weasel is very clever and kind of obnoxious. He’s about as much fun as a barrel of monkeys mixed with a puppy rolling in the mud; in other words, he likes getting into mischief. He lives in the McElvery Woodlands, and luckily, has some very patient friends, including Matilda the Fawn, Chadwick the Beaver, and Horatio the Frog.
All Rinnie wants to do is have fun and play with his friends, but he’s developed a bit of a bad reputation. Some of his buddies get annoyed at his antics and don’t always want to play because Rinnie can be messy and rude. It’s a good thing his pals love him despite his various escapades, but what happens when he goes too far? Well, his friends want to wring his neck, that’s what!
Rinnie the Weasel sweeps readers right into the magic of the story. Engaging in a variety of built-in activities supports the message of the book and helps kids connect in meaningful ways to the characters and events of Rinnie’s journey. Sure, this bothersome weasel might be a lot of trouble, but with the help of his friends, he learns some important lessons.
About the Author
Debby Bowes spent many years teaching elementary school. She was selected as a fellow to the California Writing and Literature Project and is a founding member of the California Women’s History Project. She earned her Doctorate from the University of Southern California and lives in Laguna Beach with her husband. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
