Hot Chocolate with Whipped Peppermint Topping
*Makes 8 Servings*
Ingredients:
Hot chocolate
4 cups of whole milk
Pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 ½ cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Peppermint Topping:
1 8-oz. container of thawed whipped topping
10 peppermint candies, crushed
1 drop red food coloring
Directions:
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil (or wax paper).
In a mixing bowl, combine half of the whipped topping and the crushed peppermint candies. Add the drop of red coloring and stir.
Drop teaspoonfuls of the whipped topping about 1 ½ inches onto the cookie sheet. Place in your freezer and freeze it for about 20-30 minutes until firm.
In a large saucepan, heat milk and salt over medium heat until steaming. Then, remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Return to low heat and then whisk the melted chocolate chips until the mixture is smooth.
Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract.
Pour the hot chocolate into cups or mugs. Place the dollop of peppermint topping on each and serve. Enjoy!
