But I digress, back to my going to a SNF to sit with our deceased patient Joe until the funeral home can get there. It took me about 30 minutes to get to the SNF so I knew I would only be waiting for about an hour because most of the time funeral homes get to the body within 90 minutes of being called. Joe was in a room by himself with the door closed. When I went into the room it was divided into two areas by a curtain, which is common in most facilities. He was very stiff appearing and his skin tone was grey. I said a prayer for him and then pulled the curtain closed and sat on the other bed so I could do some paperwork while I waited. About 20 minutes had passed when I heard someone say, “home”. It was in a very low guttural voice and drawn out but clear to my hearing. I was the only person in the room and I know it was Joe who said it. I would love to tell you that I was calm and simply took this as a message from Joe or whoever that he was going home, but I grabbed my stuff and ran out of the room as fast as I could. I luckily ran into our hospice chaplain who was on her way to check on how I was handling this visit as it was my first death visit.

About the Author
Cindy Marks, RN, BSN, is a nurse and psychic. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado School of Nursing. Over the past twelve years, she has been a hospice nurse who blends her skills and innate gift to help bridge this world with the next for her patients and families. By writing this book, Cindy hopes to share her wisdom beyond those in her immediate care to a larger group of people.
