I remember the summer that Millie taught at vacation bible school I was her star student. She would let two or three of us choose a song and she would start singing, then she would make us join in. She had such a beautiful voice. I could have listened to her sing for hours. That may have had a lot to do in influencing me in the career I later was to choose and the course of study I made in college. Because of Millie, I loved music and wanted to learn to play the piano. Millie told me she would help me if my parents would pay for the lessons.

About the Book
The story begins with Ricky Snyder as a young boy growing up with older parents in a town in Tennessee. Millie Pendergrass is a talented girl, somewhat protective but very fond of Ricky. The two become good friends as well as great young companions. Millie is an excellent pianist. Ricky wants to learn to play the piano. Millie agrees to teach him how to play. With Millie as his piano teacher, their relationship begins to blossom. Ricky’s desire is to attend Juilliard and become a concert pianist. It is obvious from the beginning of the story that sadness happens. The surprise is how opportunities develop and how two lives join. The story goes from the present to the past, and eventually the two times blend. Ricky Snyder’s career becomes a focus of both the present and the past.
About the Author
This is Donald Arlo Jennings’s second book. He has written chapters and coauthored chapters in other books related to healthcare technology, written numerous articles for magazines, and coauthored several white papers. His first book, Genesis Revisited: The Creation, yields to the passion he has for all that God created. This book, Companion, is far different. Jennings wanted to create a story that shares joy, creativity, feelings, and sadness. Starting with the ending, Jennings brings the present into the past and again blends the past back into the present. One could say that when you come to the end of the book, you could turn back to the front and continue reading the story.
